At Carpenter Core, we're dedicated to merging craftsmanship with connection, and we're thrilled to announce an exciting new development in our product line. We've expanded our selection of stain finishes for our small wooden crates and boxes, introducing eight color options in addition to our timeless Natural option. This brings our total offerings to nine beautiful finishes, all designed to enhance the aesthetic appeal and functional value of our products.

These new finishes are eco-friendly, water-based, low-odor, and low VOC, making them a safe and sustainable choice. Our stains are crafted to highlight the natural beauty of the wood grain while providing a unique, elegant touch that makes our crates and boxes stand out in any setting.

The story behind our new colors

Our journey to developing these new finishes was rooted in our desire to offer more personalized options and a better customer experience.

While our best-selling color has always been Natural, there has been an increasing demand for stained finishes. By offering a selection of colors, plus other custom options such as lids, hinges, and laser engraving, our customers can make their wooden crates or boxes truly unique and personalized.

Previously, we offered five colors by special request. We've updated these colors and added three new ones: Moss green, Vintage blue, and Heritage red.

Creating our new stain finishes involved a significant amount of thought and research. Each color was carefully developed to achieve a specific look, using various stain base types, color tints, and application techniques. For example:

Heritage red was inspired by the eastern red cedar native to our area, here in North Alabama. It evokes the look of freshly cut cedar under a stream of water.

Aged black draws from the weathered barns in the southern countryside, capturing the deep, rich tones of rain-soaked, aged wood.

Weathered gray mimics the appearance of driftwood, aged and bleached by the elements on a lakeshore.

Timber brown reflects the dark heartwood of the Sassafras tree, visible from our office window.

Golden patina brings to mind the natural aging of a pine apple crate left in an attic for decades.

Enhancing the unboxing experience

Our finishes not only look stunning but are also designed to enhance the unboxing experience. We prioritize using water-based stains for their low odor and low VOC properties. This decision was born from our early days when we discovered the long-lasting chemical smells from certain coatings. By choosing water-based solutions, we ensure a pleasant unboxing experience and a healthier environment for our workers and customers.

We also chose to make our new stain finishes more mar-resilient. This means that they are slightly more resistant to abrasion and can withstand a broader range of household cleaners. Our stained wood finishes can be cleaned with mild household soap, and small blemishes can be removed using a white eraser.
